Historic Charleston and Tennis Center Senior Session

Meet Anna, Class of 2026!

Being able to really capture a high school senior's true personality and style during their session is really why I love doing senior sessions in the first place. This is typically your child's first time having a session that is ALL about themselves; a time when they can wear what they want and really show off their interests and hobbies.

Anna's family have been clients of mine since 2019 when we have always done their yearly portraits for Christmas Cards and I did her brother's senior portraits two years before hers. I was so excited when her mom Amy reached our to plan her session for downtown and at the Maybank Tennis Center on James Island because I just knew she would bring so much attitude and confidence to her session.

After reviewing the options they decided that a two-location session package "The Compendium" was going to be the best fit for Anna because she really wanted to focus both on her love for tennis but still wanted a traditional senior session in Historic Downtown Charleston. I think this was the perfect choice for a senior who is very sports focused!

We met at the Maybank Tennis Center as soon as they opened at 8:00am so that we could take advantage of a fairly empty court for both portraits and action shots. Having never really photographed a sport I will say this was actually a great challenge for me. Timing the moment of impact for the ball against the racket was a real challenge, but was kind of fun to shoot.

Because this portion of the session was going to be more physically demanding and required some particular hair styling we decided to wait and do the second location of Anna's session another day. This was the best option to make sure we could really focus on the two completely different objectives of these locations.

A few weeks later we met in the French Quarters of Historic Charleston to capture her style and personality for a more traditional senior portrait session.

Starting at city hall with what Anna referred to as her "flight attendant" look, we got some professional headshots she can use for possible sorority applications or whatever other professional use she might need. I'll give credit for this smart move to her mom. While I do love to just highlight a senior's own personal style, I'm not opposed to moms smart thinking ahead for getting a variety of uses out of this session. A good headshot can make the difference in jobs and plenty of other opportunities.

You can always tell when a client is loving what they're wearing, especially a teenager. It's like an entirely different personality emerges and I saw such a fun, confident and carefree side of her come to life once she was wearing clothes that she really loved.

So while moms do get a say in your outfits, it's really important to show what you love.

Colors you can't go wrong in wearing within the Church and Chalmers area of Historic Charleston:  Blue, Red, and Black.

Even a casual jean look can be styled in a number of ways to save you too many trips into the changing tent but to also giving plenty of variety in the small areas of downtown Charleston.
