Bringing home a new baby is one of life’s most meaningful (and exhausting!) transitions. Those first few weeks are filled with tender moments, little details, a whole lot of love but likely little sleep. As a Charleston family and newborn photographer, I specialize in capturing those early days in a way that feels natural, relaxed, and true to your story—right in the comfort of your own home.
If you’re considering newborn photos, here’s why an in-home session might be the perfect fit for your family and why I would love to be considered as your family's photographer!
There’s something special about being in your own environment. You know where everything is, you can feed and soothe your baby comfortably, and you’re surrounded by the little routines you’re just beginning to build.
This comfort naturally leads to more genuine, connected images. Whether it’s snuggling on the couch, rocking in the nursery, or simply holding your baby in your favorite chair, these are the moments that truly reflect your life right now.
In-home sessions allow me to incorporate those meaningful spaces into your images. The crib you carefully chose, the drapery of house planets along your windowsills, the way the light falls in your living room in the morning—these details add depth and personalization that simply can’t be recreated in a studio.
Your baby’s nursery, the cozy corners of your home, the details you thoughtfully prepared during pregnancy, these all deserve to be remembered. Years from now, these photos won’t just remind you of how your baby looked, but also what your home and your life felt like in those early days.
For many families, pets are the original “babies,” and including them in your newborn session can be incredibly special.
At home, pets are more relaxed and comfortable in their own space, making it much easier (and safer) to include them in a few meaningful images. Whether it’s your dog(s) curiously checking on the baby or even the cat coming out of hiding for a new visitor, these moments help tell your complete story.
Newborn sessions at home naturally allow for a slower, more flexible pace. We can take breaks for feeding, diaper changes, or soothing without any pressure or time constraints.
My approach is always baby-led, meaning we follow your little one’s needs throughout the session. This creates a calm environment and ensures we capture your baby just as they are—perfectly and naturally.
One of the biggest concerns I hear is "I don't know if the light is good in our home." I use a blend of natural light and gentle artificial lighting when needed to create soft, timeless images—no matter the layout of your home. Rainy day? No problem!
You don’t need a perfectly styled house or large windows. I’ll guide you to the best spots and make the most of your space to create beautiful, light-filled images that tell your story in your space.
For my clients that still love the classic look of posed newborn pictures that resemble those taken in a studio I also provide the props, swaddles and matching accessories to achieve this look. I'm one of very few photographers that offer this hybrid style of newborn sessions in the Charleston area while being professionally trained in newborn safety and posing.
Overall, if you're looking for to capture these first few weeks of life at home with your new addition but the thought of packing it all up to leave for a studio is overwhelming an at-home newborn session is the perfect choice for you. I will bring everything to you, from the outfits and baby props to dresses for you to make the experience as easy and stress-free as possible.
