Meet Brooke!

We met on Folly Beach for sunset to capture her senior portraits, just in time for her 18th birthday the first week of April. Charleston weather has been a bit finicky lately so this was one of those days that sunset was gorgeous, but the temperatures and wind chill were - brrrrr. Even still, it beats sweating during your session and dealing with bugs so it all works out.

I always like to get an idea of what a senior will be bringing to their session, for clothes and accessories. Mentally it helps me prepare our order and shot list that I have in my mind. Between the poses, colors, and the location we're working with it's important to plan out what works best. For example, Brooke had a very short babydoll dress in red but also had the jumpsuit in red. Given the wind forecast and me wanting to pose her for some sitting and kneeling poses I knew the babydoll style dress probably wasn't the best (or modest) choice for the beach. But in the end, that red jumpsuit is her absolute favorite anyway, and she rocked those poses that I would have never been able to do in a dress.

When Brooke graduates from High School she will be moving on in the fall to study Marine Biology. She said she would love to work for an aquarium as well as having her own business helping animals. She absolutely loves the beach, the ocean, and all the marine life.

I'm so glad I had Brooke's mom take a look back in her closest before our session. Knowing what sunset would most likely look like and then taking a look at Brooke and the stunning color of her eyes, I knew we needed something else that would pair well with that sky of the setting sun. I knew we needed something pastel or jewel toned and BAM, mom found this purple romper in her closet. Again, that's definitely the benefit of having a well experienced photographer in your corner! To end the session I had Brooke wear what she actually showed up in, a pair of shorts and her poncho style hoodie. It was perfectly her, the folly vibe, and at least at this point she could keep her arms warm!

I ended this session with a girl who absolutely rocked the camera and was so comfortable being herself. I have no doubt she will achieve anything she puts her mind to and will make so many great connections along the way!
